Trail ascends steeply for 3.7 miles up from Woodland Valley Campground in Phoenicia, NY, through scenic forest land, following red trail markers, and returns using the same trail of 3.7 miles back down to the parking area.
A small day use fee applies when you park at the campground seasonally from May-October, the rest of the year it is free to park there. Wittenberg Mountain is one of the Catskills high peaks at 3780′. Backcountry primitive campsites are available with a 0.9 mile side trail using yellow trail markers to Terrace Mountain (2360′). Please note that fires and camping are not permitted above 3500′ in elevation (source: NYSDEC).
