A terrific hike all times of year, this trail has a gentle uphill slope for the first 2.72 miles as you follow a path alongside the Kanape Brook. When you reach a trail junction, travel to the left and for about a mile the trail will be steeply uphill (1000′) to the summit of Ashokan High Point. A good view right at the top that shows the nearby Shawangunk Mountain, the official summit is a little further down the trail. If you keep walking for a short distance after the summit, there is a scenic wide open field with pretty mountain views.

This hike can be done as an out and back which totals 7.54 miles, or a 1.65 loop can be added if you keep traveling after the summit to make a total of 9.19 miles back to the parking area on Route 42.
