First Day Hike: Huckleberry Point Trail

Want to start the year off with a beautiful and challenging hike? Join us for a first-day hike to Huckleberry Point from Platte Clove Rd.

This hike will have a variety of terrains including a rocky service road, a traditional rock and root trail, a river crossing, and some light rock scrambling. The hike is moderate-difficult based on an individual’s abilities. The distance from the parking area to the viewpoint will be about 2.5 miles, with a 5-mile total round trip.

Trail conditions may range from muddy to icy & snowy. All attendees should expect to carry microspikes or trail crampons for the duration of the hike. Snowshoes may be required based on possible snowfall closer to the day of the hike. In the event of inclement weather on the day of, this hike will be canceled with no rescheduling planned.

For any who are concerned about the seasonal closure of Platte Clove Rd, the section that is closed will be to the east, leading up the ridge from West Saugerties. To avoid this closure, plan to approach the area by traveling through Elka Park, located northwest of the Trailhead.
