First Day Hike: Ashokan High Point
Join Catskill Center and the Catskill Mountain Club on a terrific hike of Ashokan High Point to begin the New Year.
Ashokan High Point (3086′) is a prominent mountain in the eastern Catskills overlooking the Ashokan Reservoir and the Burroughs Range. Elevation gain is about 2000′. Most of the hike is relatively easy, but there are some steep pitches. The trail follows the Kanape Brook for more than half the hike.
This hike is co-hosted by the CMC and the Catskills Visitor Center and sponsored by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Leaders of this hike are Wendell George of the CMC and Olivia Bernard of the CVC.
Bring lunch, snacks, something to drink. Wear warm, moisture wicking clothing that is easy to layer, good hiking boots, snowshoes, and micro spikes. Hiking poles are recommended. Hike will be cancelled if weather causes hazardous road conditions.
Reach out to Olivia at the Catskills Visitor Center for information on renting snowshoes, obernard@catskillcenter.org. Please register by December 30th by emailing Wendell at wendell@catskillmountainclub.org or by calling 845-586-6273
