First Day Hike: Platte Clove Preserve to Codfish Point

Celebrate the new year in the outdoors with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s 13th Annual First Day Hikes program. Visit Dec.ny.gov for details.

Please check our events page for information on the two hikes available.

Platte Clove Preserve to Codfish Point

Please meet your hike leader at the Huckleberry Point Trailhead (a minute drive past the Platte Clove Preserve) at 10am

Enjoy a four-mile hike out and back with a view and an optional waterfall. The hike consists of a gradual hike along an old service road to Codfish Point and back. You’ll be traveling to the Platte Clove Preserve for the start of the hike, following the Overlook Trail. The hike will continue past the old quarry and the easternmost side of the Devil’s Path, and out to Codfish Point. A small trip down to the Platte Clove waterfall will be possible at the end of the hike for any who are interested. Please bring 2-3 insulating layers to accommodate for the temperatures. Some sections may be frozen, so be prepared with traction devices, such as microspikes, if we run into some icy patches. Finally, traditional bottles and pack reservoir systems will not keep water you bring from freezing. Plan to bring an insulated water bottle so your water doesn’t freeze. Hot soups and broths are perfect items to bring with you as they have essential nutrients and will help you warm up on a cold day.

To register for the hike, call the Catskills Visitor Center at (845) 688-3369 or email info@catskillcenter.org. Please provide your name, phone number and email so we can reach you about any changes or cancellations.

Advance registration is required and the hike is limited to 9 people. Space is limited.
