CATSKILLS CELEBRATION: FAMILY FUN AT THE CATSKILLS VISITOR CENTER
Join us for a Catskills Celebration!
Bring friends and family to participate in activities that celebrate the many facets of the Catskills. Take an educational nature walk to learn about our local birds. Find and identify the creatures (macroinvertebrates) living in our streams. Use the sun to create cyanotype art with a local artist. Watch Luara create paint from our Catskills rocks. Listen to music by local singer/songwriter Story Laurie. Experience the thrill of seeing local reptiles and amphibians up close. Discover the mysteries of sound with the Dirtmeister. Explore the power of the past with staff from Hanford Mills Museum.
Food from Terri’s Deli in Kingston will be available for purchase. Selections include: BBQ pork or chicken, mac n cheese, or a summer salad (available as long as supplies last).
Suggested donation $5 per person, $15 per family.
All Day Activities:
Create and use paint from Catskills Rock/Soil
Observe Macros and determine the Esopus Creek’s health
Hanford Mills Museum led activities
Create cyanotypes – art from the sun
Schedule of Events:
10:30 am – Good Vibrations: Join science celebrity and National Geographic author Steve “The Dirtmiester” Tomecek as he explores the science of sound. We will examine how sounds are made and transmitted and why sound is simply energy for the ears!
12:30 – Catskills Reptiles: Russ Walker will share secrets and facts about the reptiles living in the Catskills. Several live animals will be available to observe.
2pm – Story Laurie – Listen or sing along with Story Laurie as she performs songs about the Catskills.
